UPDATE: Drag Sounds will open the Greensboro release party for Shuffle‘s summer issue on June 21 alongside Estrangers and Company. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and costs $5.

In the last couple days, I and my fellow editors and designers have put the finishing touches on Shuffle’s summer edition, our 16th issue to date. I write to you now tired but proud, propped up on coffee and excited to share our newest exploration of the best music the Carolinas have to offer. I’m also in the mood to celebrate, and I’m happy to solicit your help in that regard. Shuffle is proud to present two release parties for the new issue in Greensboro and Chapel Hill. The shows — at CFGB and Local 506 respectively — will take place on June 21 and 22 and will highlight a trio of bands featured in the magazine.

Charleston’s Company, our cover boys for the new issue, will anchor both bills. Leader Brian Hannon has endured the death of drummer and close friend Kelly Grant to produce Dear America, a sweeping slice of wide-eyed indie rock that marries Big Star-quality melody to the heady textures of slacker rock.

Supporting Company will be a pair of locals representing the Triad and the Triangle. Winston-Salem’s Estrangers will headline at CFGB. Their combustible retro-rock is taken to a distorted new realm on the recent Sunmelt EP, proving the outfit is capable of head games as well as hooks.

In Chapel Hill, TOW3RS will take the final slot. Their scatter-shot approach to indie rock — showcased on this year’s If All We Have Is Time – proves them equally adept at macabre noise epics, brittle ballads and nervy pop-rock jams.
