Dwarr announces first-ever tour

In the mid-’80s South Carolinian guitarist Duane Warr adopted the nom-de-rock Dwarr and recorded two albums of skewed psychedelic metal — 1984′s Starting Over and 1986′s Animals — before disappearing from the music world, presumably never to be heard from again. (He was born again nine years after recording his debut, and if the Internet is to be trusted, he might now be a real estate agent in Lexington, S.C.)

Drag City Records reissued both Dwarr albums, beginning in 2010 with Animals, and then pressing Starting Over anew last year. But Dwarr’s music remained a record shop curiosity, the obscure and eccentric fossil-record of Dwarr’s curious music preserved forever in the vinyl’s ringed grooves.

That’s about to change.

For four days in May, Dwarr will embark on his first-ever tour, shuttling from Texas to Georgia to North Carolina supporting labelmates Black Bananas (featuring Royal Trux’s Jennifer Herrema) and Magik Markers. Tour dates — and the awesome video for the Sabbath-warping “Screams of Terror,” from Starting Over — are below. —Bryan C. Reed
