Lineup revealed for fifth annual TRKFest in Pittsboro
In its 11-year existence, Trekky Records hasn’t faltered from its goal of “restoring to Chapel Hill the vibrant indie scene that it was once famous for.” Since forming in 2001, Trekky’s built an impressive roster — including Midtown Dickens and Lost in the Trees — and gained a reputation for general excellence. The label’s recently announced the lineup for its fifth annual TRKfest, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Highlights include one-off performances by Lost Skulls — a Misfits tribute band composed of “Local disciples of Danzig” (see below for details) — and The Piedmont Family Reunion, a collaboration of Midtown Dickens and Megafaun. The latter will commiserate the festival’s fifth anniversary by playing songs “from both bands’ catalogs, as well as covers, traditional folk tunes, and possibly some new material.” The lineup also features Hammer No More the Fingers, Des Ark, The Toddlers, and others.
In addition to music, there’ll also be arts and crafts, food, and numerous activities ranging from free haircuts to coffee-sack races. The festival takes place July 21 at Piedmont Biofuels, and while admission’s technically free, donations of 10 bucks will be collected at the gate — so don’t be stingy.
