It’s rare for a rock band to regroup after an acrimonious split, rarer still for it to come back with a second career distinct — and not worse — than its first. Dinosaur Jr pulled that neat little trick, with what is now a three album run that presses against the high bar of its early landmarks. Now, Lou Barlow’s at it again, resurrecting Sebadoh, the band he formed after parting ways with J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr, and turning its first new material in 14 years into the remarkably solid secret EP. Back to the laconic, serrated folk and jittery melodic punk that warranted lovingly compiled reissues only a few years ago, secret begs for a new audience. And it might just earn it, too, with a tour featuring the strident trio of Barlow, Jake Loewenstein and Bob D’Amico back in action. In its first go-round, Sebadoh defiantly, triumphantly demanded, “Gimmie Indie Rock.” Consider this a call demand for seconds. Also of note: This evening’s opening sets come courtesy of Barlow, solo, and Circle of Buzzards, the scuzz-stomping duo of Loewenstein and D’Amico. —Bryan C. Reed
