Town Mountain to release fourth LP, Leave the Bottle, Sept. 4

Town Mountain, who own the most appropriate name possible for a bluegrass band from Asheville, will drop their fourth album on Sept. 4. The collection — titled Leave the Bottle — will see release via Pinecastle Records. That’s the album art at the bottom of the post.
Town Mountain take a steady-handed approach to bluegrass, bass lines and guitars chugging along patiently as mandolin, fiddle and banjo add prickly texture to the higher registers. Formed in 2005, the five-piece has refined its style gradually arriving at a rustic and well-rounded style of playing that always charms if it only infrequently dazzles. Like its predecessor, Steady Operator, Leave the Bottle was produced by Grammy-winning bass player Mike Bub. The album also includes songwriting contributions from Steep Canyon Rangers bassist Charles Humphrey III, who co-wrote two songs.
Though the album won’t be out for a few weeks, Town Mountain are hitting the road this week for a two-month trek bookended by a pair of N.C. performances. They open the tour Thursday night at Raleigh’s Pour House and wrap things up with an appearance at Asheville’s Brewgrass Festival on Sept. 15. —Jordan Lawrence
